The Inspiration

A lot of people have asked me why I wanted to start a blog, and at first, I didn’t have a definite answer besides how I thought it'd be fun. I pondered about it, and now I know. Uninspired work becomes a chore so I’m glad I found the deep-rooted passion!

When I was 15 I was hit by a speeding Amtrak train (they go around 83mph on average). I was on the way to a music festival with a few friends until plans changed. As I was airlifted to the city’s children’s hospital, no one could tell my family if I was going to make it or not. For the next few (agonizing) days that was still the case. I damaged my optic nerve, endured a Traumatic Brain Injury which caused memory loss, suffered internal facial injuries, subdural brain hemorrhages, a fractured pelvic bone, and had shattered my humerus- now made of titanium.

Doctors originally envisioned a hospital stay of several months, but I was discharged in twelve days with follow-up and rehabilitation visits. It was miraculous not to die after such an event let alone recover to walk away with an almost normal life. A lot of people told me I was special after this, that I was God’s little angel, and I believed them. Encouraged and motivated, from this day forward, I started working harder in school, re-joining my clubs, putting myself more out there, and to be honest I felt more confident. On hearing my story, every person’s jaw usually drops as they tell me how amazing this is, and then ask me a million questions.

All I know for sure is that I want to help others in any way that I can, now more than ever. So when people wonder and ask me what prompted me to create a blog, my answer is simple. I want to help others. If I am able to do that by sharing my experiences there’s no reason not to do so.
